Happy Mother's Day (Please Don't Mention Cheer!)

Hey Messy Marvelous Mamas! I’m back in the blogosphere after a whirlwind two weeks. Let's just say, this mama is running on fumes and approximately 3 cups of lukewarm coffee with a splash of vodka? Just kidding (or maybe?)

Why the exhaustion, you ask? Well, picture this: Six days in Florida. Two daughters in sparkly uniforms and enough glitter to blind a disco ball. Yep, you guessed it – cheerleading championship! Don't get me wrong, I love seeing my girls shine. But let's be honest, competitive cheer is basically a spectator sport for parents. Hey, you said it- I didn’t. Or did I? It doesn’t matter.  I got off topic.

Now, before you envision me as a stressed-out cheer mom stereotype (blinged jersey with matching blinged, sparkling shoes and Stanley), let me assure you, I wouldn't trade these crazy girls and their athleticism for the world. But a girl can dream, right?

This Mother's Day, my ideal celebration looks a little different than roses and breakfast in bed (although, I wouldn't say no!). My dream day involves:

  • Silence: Glorious, uninterrupted silence. No "Mom, can you…" or "Mom's where's my…" Just blissful quiet.

  • A Mimosa (or Three): Because apparently, adult beverages are a magical elixir that somehow replenishes lost sleep and restores sanity.

  • A Book (Not FB where all people do is talk about cheer): A fictional world where dishes magically clean themselves and laundry folds itself.

  • Maybe a Spa Day (One Where I Don't Have to Share the Bathroom): Just picture a masseuse with magical hands and a zero-tolerance glitter policy.

Look, I wouldn't have it any other way. These messy, marvelous daughters are my life. But a little "me time" on Mother's Day would be a gift from the glitter gods.  Because moms, let's face it, we give so much of ourselves. We're cheerleaders (literal and metaphorical), chauffeurs, cooks, counselors, teachers, and everything in between. We juggle work deadlines, dance, track, cheer practice schedules, and emotional meltdowns with the grace of a seasoned circus act. Silence? A mimosa? A book that doesn't involve cheer? These aren't just luxuries, they're tiny oases of sanity in our whirlwind lives.

Speaking of gifts, here's a little confession: The Summit cheer championship involved some serious cardio on my part, and a touch of heartbreak. My girls, bless their hearts, are on different teams and they had performances two minutes apart across the arena. Imagine me sprinting across two football fields, fueled by overpriced pretzels and the unwavering desire to see both my daughters shine. Sadly, despite my valiant effort (and a pulled hamstring to prove it!), I missed my youngest daughter's routine. Cue the waterworks (mine, not hers, thankfully).

So, to my daughters (and anyone else reading this), consider this a public service announcement:  Mom needs a break. Maybe just leave a box of chocolates and a spa gift card by the door and don't mention pyramids or double downs for, oh, say, the next six months?

Happy Mother's Day to all you amazing mamas out there! May your day be filled with a little less chaos and a lot more laughter (and maybe some adult beverages – we won't judge).

Love, Tee

P.S. If anyone wants to join me at the gym amping up our cardio, hit a girl up! In the meantime, comment your blissful Mother’s Day plans below.
